- Dorthea Lange was an American Depression era photographer who’s photography influenced photo documentary and helped humanize the effects of the Great Depression.
- Above her darkroom door, she put the words of philosopher Sir Francis Bacon “The contemplation of things as they are without error without or confusion without substitution or imposture is in itself a nobler thing than a whole harvest of inventions.”
