AYP Insider: Women In Sports

“These days, the girls are hitting it as hard and heavy as the boys are.”

“It’s a great thing to see. I’m use to seeing mostly men out here on the driving range so when I spot a woman blasting away, I like to give her a tip of the hat,” says Lam Nguyen, one of our resident photogs. “When I’m not out with the AYP  crew risking life and limbs, I like to unwind on a golf course or an ice hockey rink. More and more, I’m seeing women and girls smacking some golf balls or carving up some ice. It’s refreshing.”

For the latter, we’re not just talking figure skating here, folks. I’ve seen the female population among my local hockey leagues steadily increase and some of the most skilled players I currently skate with are female. Best golfer I know? Female. To prove a point, she decided to hit the course with two of my other male friends using only a 5 iron, 8 iron, lob wedge and putter. The result was comical. She shot one under on a reasonably tough course. The closest male golfer, me, shot 9 over (which is a pretty good round).

“Always stretch first.”

My point is, they’re not just coming for us, boys, they’re here and they’re kicking our asses. I, for one, couldn’t be happier. All things considered, I’d rather be crushed on a golf course by one of my female friends (See picture above. Duh.) than one of my male counterparts.

All that being said, we’d like to take this moment to salute you, our female photogs, who are out and about snapping away. Whether it be sports or street photography, we feel like having a female perspective on the subject helps to broaden the minds of so many of us. Share us your favorite shots of a female athlete in her element here.
