Celebrity photographer Mario Testino has spent 30 years photographing Hollywood’s biggest stars, but now he’s the one in the spotlight.
Testino is the guest of honor at this year’s El Museo del Barrio Gala in Manhattan on May 26, where he will receive a lifetime achievement award presented by Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet. Tickets for the event will benefit local public and educational programs.
Winslet, who won a best actress Oscar for her performance in ‘The Reader’ and has been a frequent subject of Testino’s, will present the photographer with a special silver plate inscribed with the names of 30 of his most famous friends. Demi Moore, Blake Lively and Julia Roberts are among those who will be in attendance.
Born in Lima, Peru, in 1954, Mario Testino moved to New York in 1976 to pursue a career in photography, and today he is one of the most sought-after celebrity and fashion photographers in the world. He has contributed fashion spreads to the likes of Vogue, Vanity Fair and Gucci, and his past subjects include A-List actresses like Julia Roberts and Gwyneth Paltrow, supermodels like Kate Moss, Giselle Bundchen and Tyra Banks, and music performers like Madonna and Lady Gaga.
In 2002, the National Portrait Gallery in London exhibited ‘Portraits by Mario Testino,’ which remains the art gallery’s most successful exhibition to date.
