Prince William and Kate Middleton are about to be at the center of the biggest wedding in a generation. And while the entire world will be watching the royal couple exchange vows, so will hundreds of eager photographers looking to capture their very own multimillion dollar shot.

8,000 journalists are expected to swarm London this month to cover the royal wedding, an event as potentially lucrative as the biggest Hollywood film shoot. Ever since their engagement months ago, William and Middleton have been at the center of a tabloid feeding frenzy. But the paparazzi problem does not sit well with Middleton and her family, as the young princess-to-be has warned photographers to leave her family alone.

Middleton’s family has asked photographers to give the family space as the wedding date approaches, according to CBS News. The move comes amid reports that photogs on mopeds have been harassing Middleton’s mother and sister.

Of course, royal family problems with the press are nothing new. Just last week Sweden’s Queen Sylvia was injured after falling while trying to escape tabloid photographers, and Prince Williams own mother, Princess Diana, was tragically killed in a car accident in 1997 following an infamous pursuit from paparazzi.

In 2009, Middleton herself won a settlement worth thousands of pounds in an out of court settlement over pictures of her on Christmas holiday.

The need to showcase the world’s most popular celebrities in their private lives represents a fine line between privacy and the public demand for information, and Prince Williams and Kate Middleton’s wedding is the most stark example of this dilemma. Yet for the royal family, safety and security must always be the number one priority.
