“HWY 53 on my way home from Portland”

Photographed by: Maya Sacks

I grew up in Nehalem, OR and started surfing when I was very young. Following my high school graduation I moved to Hawaii and bought my first DSLR camera. Naturally, I began taking pictures of waves and surfers.

I worked at Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore, taking pictures for the Hans Hedemann Surf School. Getting paid to take photos was like a dream for me. That was when I knew I wanted to become a professional photographer. One year later I moved back to Oregon and decided to enroll at Brooks Institute in Ventura, CA. I hope to one day work for Surfer Magazine along side some of my biggest inspirations like Chris Burkard and Zak Noyle.

More of Maya’s work can be seen here.
